CSOs submit Universal Periodic Review (UPR) 41st Session for Indonesia

SAFEnet was submitted two (2) Universal Periodic Review (UPR) documents to OCHCR that focused on digital rights issues and rights to dissent.

On the first submission, Southeast Asia Freedom of Expression Network (SAFEnet), the Association of Progressive Communications (APC), EngageMedia focused particularly on digital rights including freedom of expression, the protection of human rights defenders (HRDs), including including women human rights defenders, violence against women and misinformation.

Regarding online freedom of expression, the protection for freedom of expression in international law is based under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and under Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). Both protect the right to freedom of expression of individuals, including their right to seek, receive and impart information through the media, including online.
